LAUTECH Alumni holds annual lecture, addresses youths unemployment on economy and security

Nigerian Federal Lawmaker, representing Obokun/Oriade constituency in Osun State, Hon. (Dr.) Oluwole Oke has called on the academia to redesign curriculum that will embrace Technical Education to address unemployment and insecurity. 

Oke, who made the call at the 15th annual lecture of Alumni Association Worldwide, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, said quality education, with emphasis on technical education are needed to address youths restiveness, insecurity and present global economic crises. 

Mouthpiece NGR reports that the event with the theme  “Addressing the impact of youths unemployment on economy and security in the process of nation building using the right university education approach.” has in attendance   Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mojeed Liasu, members of the academia, guests and students of the University, with alumni members of the institution, government officials and other resource persons. 

Declaring the lecture series open, Prof. Samson Ojoawo thanked all individuals present and identify with the association for the success of this epoch-making programme and also appreciated the Association for appointing him Chairman, Planning committee.

He added that; “With the application of technology, this year lecture is being delivered in a hybrid version which make it possible for our Alumni members all over the globe to participate either physically or virtually”

In his words, the president of the associa­tion, Hon. Solomon Onilede (JP), noted the efforts of his administration in the bid to sustain such a program where eminent personalities are invited to share their experiences on topics bothering on LAUTECH, education sector and Nigeria.

“My solemn appreciation to Engr. Seyi Makinde for stabilizing and rebirthing LAUTECH and his efforts to ensure that Oyo State became the sole owner of LAUTECH cannot be overemphasized. I thank our guest lecturer for making it to today’s event.”

While giving the goodwill message, the Acting VC, Prof. Mojeed Liasu commended LAUTECH Alumni Association for sustaining its verge of providing solutions to various topical issues and challenges bedeviling the institution, education sector and Nigeria.

“I want to specially thank the leadership of LAUTECH Alumni Association for its collective efforts to providing lasting solution to the lingering challenges in the country and today’s event is evident to this regards.”

The guest lecturer, Hon. (Dr.) Oluwole Oke lauded LAUTECH management for providing enabling ground for the Alumni Association to thrive, adding that it’s worthy of emulation for Nigerian institutions.

According to him, there is need to embrace technical education if we truly want to address unemployment through university approach. 

He said: “Technical education must be introduced into Nigerian university curriculum.”

“In addition to that, Poor funding for Nigerian institutions has been instrumental to the end product the Nigerian universities churned out every year as graduates. The government has to be deliberate on building of necessary laboratories for the actualization of this dream.”

The federal lawmaker charged the youths to constantly evaluate themselves and seek for better improvement of their lives rather than being idle which may make them agents of devil. 

Other dignitaries present at the event were; Mr. Babajide Bewaji (Chair, Board of Trustees); LAUTECH Alumni Pioneer President, Prof. Alawode and host of others.
