SMATO Leads Charge in Public Hearing to Address Soaring Cement Prices by Cement Manufacturers in Nigeria

In a bid to address the alarming surge in cement prices gripping the nation, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals and representative of the Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, on Tuesday, Joined other Members of the House of Representatives joint Committee to investigate the “Arbitrary Increase in the Price of Cement in Nigeria”. 

A statement made available to newsmen on Wednesday indicated that the event was declared by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Benjamin Kalu. 

The public hearing was co-chaired by Hon. Makanjuola and the esteemed Chairman, Hon. Jonathan Gaza, who brought together key stakeholders from across the cement industry, government officials, and experts to delve into the root causes behind the exorbitant price hikes.

Speaking passionately during the proceedings, Hon. Makanjuola underscored the urgent need to tackle this pressing issue, recognizing its profound impact on the lives and livelihoods of ordinary Nigerians. 

As a vocal advocate for his constituents, the lawmaker emphasized the importance of exploring practical solutions to alleviate the financial burden placed on consumers.

Throughout the discussions, Hon. Ojo Makanjuola reiterated his commitment to championing policies that foster fair competition, transparent pricing mechanisms, and sustainable development within the cement sector.

 He called for a collaborative approach among all stakeholders to devise comprehensive strategies that address the underlying challenges and ensure the accessibility and affordability of cement for all Nigerians.

As the public hearing drew to a close, Makanjuola reaffirmed his resolve to work tirelessly alongside his colleagues on the House Committee on Solid Minerals to enact meaningful reforms that benefit the Nigerian people.
