Oyo Assembly appeals to Gov. Makinde, GC to consider appointment of ROM Kalilu as substantive LAUTECH VC
. Kalilu specifically born to manage LAUTECH, says Oyo majority leader
Following report of committee on Education, Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology on its oversight visits to all Tertiary Institutions in the state, the Oyo State House of Assembly has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde and the Governing Council of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, to consider the appointment of Professor ROM Khalilu as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the University.
The appeal was made at Tuesday plenary when the House Committee on Education, Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology were presenting their oversight report on LAUTECH.
The committee maintained that the appeal was premised upon the unprecedented achievements recorded by Professor ROM Khalilu as Acting Vice Chancellor within the shortest period he assumed the position.
While adopting the report, the House Majority leader, Hon. Sanjo Adedoyin, stated that some of Prof. Kalilu’s achievements was clearing arrears of staff emolument since 2013 which amounted to Thirteen Billion (N13B) Naira and backlog of promotion were resolved and cleared.
The majority leader equally noted that the university under his watch introduced new programmes such as Political Science, Mass Communication, Library and Social Science, English and Literary studies and others.
He added that new Research Institutes were also established in tandem with the new edict of the Institution.
Adedoyin, who is representing the Ogbomoso South Constituency, also mentioned that the institution has been ranked as the best state university and the 9th best university in Nigeria.
He added that the faculty of medicine’s intake has increased by half as a result of his excellent leadership and administrative skills.
Referring the House to his previous submission regarding the Committee report during the Governor’s November 2023 budget presentation, Adedoyin further urged the Executive Governor to take Professor Rom Khalilu into consideration as the institution’s substantive VC for more development
He described Khalilu as not only a round peg in a round hole but specifically born to manage LAUTECH.
In light of the accomplishments recorded and the numerous initiatives put forth for LAUTECH’s development, the lawmakers representing Ogbomoso North, Hon. Bisi Oluranti and Honourable Ogundele Johnson Akintola, respectively, equally made their passionate appeal to the Executive Governor of Oyo State on the recommendation of the Ag. V.C. of LAUTECH as the substantive VC.
The House, led by Rt. Hon. Speaker Ogundoyin, however commended Prof. Khalilu for his numerous accomplishments and urged the Governor to validate his appointment as soon as possible.
