Oyo ready to partner WHO for improved Health Care delivery— Makinde 

Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has restated his administration’s resolve to work together with the World Health Organization (WHO) in delivering affordable and qualitative health care to its citizenry.

Makinde disclosed this on Friday when the delegation of the World Health Organization paid a courtesy call on the governor at Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Speaking on behalf of Makinde, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal was quoted as stating that health care delivery is key and central to the manifesto of the present administration.

He noted that since 2019, the Ministry of Health and other health agencies have focused on poverty reduction through standard health care delivery.

“This administration has made it a point of duty to upgrade and equip Primary Health Care Centre in all the 351 wards across the 33 local governments.

“As we speak today, about 209 primary health care centres have been renovated and equipped.

“Few months ago, I attended a workshop in Abuja which was put together by WHO and other partner agencies with respect to ensuring the establishment of Primary Health Care Centres in all states of the federation.

“I spoke to them that this is a noble idea but this initiative has already been localized in Oyo State and that we have indeed commenced establishment of Primary Health Care Centres across a the wards in our state.

“Now, it’s going to be a stronger partnership between the Oyo State Government and the World Health Organization.

“Well, I have noted the five Ps , Promote, Provide, Protect , Power and Perform will be embraced by this administration with the sole aim of reducing poverty among our people.

In his remarks earlier, the Country representative of World Health Organization, Dr Walter congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde and his deputy, Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal on their overwhelming victory at the just concluded gubernatorial election.

Walter stated that the courtesy call was an opportunity to appreciate the present administration for creating an enabling environment for W.H.O to contribute better healthcare and wellbeing for the people.

He lauded the governor for establishing Polio Laboratory Centre which is considered to be a centre of excellence. 

He expressed the readiness of the World Health Organization to collaborate with the Oyo State Government on Primary Health Care revitalization adding that Oyo State under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde will take the lead on improved and better health care delivery in Nigeria.

The event was attended by the Hon Commissioner for Health, Dr Ladipo, Executive Secretary of Oyo Primary Health Care Board, Dr Muideen Olatunji, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health among others.
