Sultan of Sokoto orders Muslims to look out for new moon

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Sa’ad Abubakar III, has ordered the Muslim Ummah to be on look for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah from Wednesday.

Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Professor Sambo Junaidu, made this revelation on Tuesday, via a statement.

The statement has ordered the Muslim Ummah that Wednesday, June 29, equivalent to the 29th of Dhul-Qidah 1443AH, shall be used to be on look for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1443AH.

He implored Muslims to begin looking for the new moon on Wednesday and forward the report of its sighting to the nearest district or village head for due communication to the Sultan.

The Sultan also prayed Allah be with the Muslim Ummah in performing their religious duties.

Dhul-Hijjah is the 12th and the last month in the Islamic calendar.

In the month of Dhul-Hijjah, the Holy Pilgrimage (Hajj) and Eid Kabir – festival of sacrifice ate done.
