Wumi Oladeji distributes educational palliatives to over 20,000 students

The Honourable Representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, Olawunmi Oladeji on Wednesday distributed educational palliatives to over 20,000 students in her constituency, Mouthpiece NGR reports.

Oladeji who is equally the only female lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly said despite the COVID 19 pandemic which kept pupils and students home for over 6months, that time can still be recovered back if the pupils have an enabling enviroinment, adequate teachers, and working materials.

The lawmaker while distributing the materials stated that educational development is key to Nation building, noting that it is important to protect the rights of children. 

Oladeji recalled that her passion for children is what she is doing and as Chairman, House Committee on Women Affairs gave her the opportunity to reach out to more children.

She encouraged the leadership of Nigeria Union of Teachers NUT to ensure that efforts must be put in place to withdraw street children back to school in a strategic manner that will help the state to overcome the challenges of out of school children.

The former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, while making the distribution told students and teachers that what the Honourable is doing is in fulfillment of her campaign promises to the people.

Akala said politicians must always return to the grassroot to support the people, stating that the educational materials will encourage the student to attend school and be more focused.

The APC chieftain encouraged Honourable Oladeji to do more, while advising other lawmakers to emulate an outstanding politician touching the lives of people in her constituency.

After the educational empowerment, the leadership of NUT thanked her for the donation of over 5million naira worth of educational materials to assist the schools.

She later visited Nigeria training centre for the blind and Kersey Children Home, owned by Bowen university Hospital, where she donated Bags of Rice, cartoon of Noddles, cartoons of washing soap, bags of Diapers, bags of Semovita among others.

While speaking, Oladeji further emphasised the need to run an inclusive government, thereby supporting persons living with disabilities.

She promised to regularly support them and encouraged them to continue to improve in their various skill aquisition.

In appreciation, the Principal of the blind Training centre Mrs Akanbi Oluwaseun commended the kind gesture of the lawmaker, stating that the food and cash support will go a long way to assist the centre at this critical times.
