BREAKING: Afonja empowers over 500 students in 31 schools who are less privileged

The former Oyo Commissioner for Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulrahmon Rafael Afonja, has empowered over 500 students who are less privileged with school materials across 31 schools in Ogbomoso North as part of his strategy to complement Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts.

During the flag-off ceremony, he also promised 53 pairs of sandals to children who were shoeless.

The distributions took place on Thursday at Osupa Day School in the presence of influential Peoples in Ogbomoso including Hon. George Ogunlade, chairman of the Ogbomoso North Party, Hon. Adijat Oritoke Rainbow, chairman of the Ogbomoso Central Party, Hon. Sunday Bankole, and Hon. Areo Grace, supervisor of education and women affairs who are members of Peoples Democratic Party.

Com. S.A. Akano, the headmaster of Osupa Primary School, who introduced parents to PDP Ogbomoso North stakeholders as well as the school excos, expressed excitement over the development and praised Hon. Afonja’s philanthropic gesture, describing him as a lover of children and saying that such a development will encourage students to learn.

Hon. Afonja urged the parents to continue encouraging their students as education is the best asset to give to children.

He maintained that the gesture is meant to further complement the governor’s efforts who have shown sufficient concern for the state’s educational sector.

He said: “Governor Seyi Makinde has been able to restructure the state’s educational system and has even been able to return around 60,000 children to the classroom who were on street during the previous administration.

“The best legacy to give children is education. Our governor is very committed to that, which is why I’m doing this to support him. I’m asking you to vote for him in the upcoming election so that he can keep up the good work of improving the state.

However, the Ogbomoso Central chairperson, Hon. Adijat Rainbow, encouraged the children to face their studies and advised them to use Hon. Afonja as a case study going forward.

She equally urged the parents to support Governor Makinde second time ambition for continuous development of the state.

The event’s other speaker, Hon. Rapheal Afonja, who is well-known for his enormous contributions to society, prayed for the kids to succeed in life like

Ogunlade pointed out that the school materials being distributed today are a complement to Governor Seyi Makinde by Hon. Afonja.

He urged the children to use both the governor and the former commissioner as role models and said that if they read their books they will also succeed like others.

He further warned the teachers not to compare Seyi Makinde with the previous administration in Oyo State that abandoned them but rather support him if they want the excellent work to continue till 2027.

He also urged the parents to vote for Syi Makinde and Hon. Bisi Oyewo Michael Oluranti in the upcoming election as well as urging them to continue supporting the current administration of Omituntun 1.0.

However, Hon. Sunday Bankole, the Oyo state PDP treasurer, highlighted Seyi Makinde’s achievements in the educational sector over the previous three and a half years, including LAUTECH, which the Governor made possible for Oyo state and has since grown to become one of the best state universities in Nigeria.

In addition to thanking Governor Makinde and Hon. Afonja for their kind gesture, parents and students also wished PDP success in the forthcoming election.

Among the school materials distributed to the over 500 students who are less privileged include Exercise books, bags, uniforms, pencil and biro.
