Alex Otti: INEC Confirms Labour Party Did Not Submit Membership Register in Abia
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has confirmed that the Labour Party did not submit it’s membership register in Abia state.
MOUTHPIECE NGR had reported that a Federal High Court Kano had sacked Labour party candidates in Abia and Kano states over failure of the party to submit it’s membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission 30 days before it’s primaries as stipulated by the electoral act.
In response to an application by N.B Ugo & Co Esq for the certified true copies of the register of members of the labour party Abia state as submitted to the commisslon 30 days before the party’s primaries, congresses or convention, the secretary to the Commission Rose Oriaran-Anthony said the LP did not submit it’s register of members in Abia state to the commisslon.
N. B. Ugo had in a letter dated March 28 to the Independent National Electoral Commission requested for a certified True Copy of the register of the Labour Party members in Abia as submitted to the commisslon 30 days before the party’s primaries.
The INEC letter: NEC/DEPM/RC/745, dated April 5, sighted by IgbereTV reads in part:
“Please refer to your letter dated 28th March, 2023 requesting for the Certified True Copies of the Register of Members of the Labour Party Abia State as submitted to the Commission.
“This is to advise you that although the Labour Party submitted Its Membership Register Via letters dated 25th April, 2022 and 5th May,2022 respectively, that of Abia State was not included.”
