Seven family members die after eating breakfast in Sokoto

Seven members of a family in Sokoto State have died after eating breakfast.

The incident happened on Tuesday in Laura village, Yabo local government of the state.

The head of the family said his five children and two of his wives died in the early hours of Tuesday after eating a local couscous popularly known as (Dambu).

Malam Umaru Danbaba Yabo traced the tragedy to the remnant of Monday’s family dinner prepared by one of his wives.

“The leftover was again mixed with an exposed uncooked couscous and prepared by one of the deceased women on that fateful morning and was served, leading to their death,” he said.

The chairman, Yabo local government council, Alhaji Halliru Abubakar Kilgore, confirmed the incident, urging residents to maintain good hygiene while handling  foodstuff.

He said the bodies of the deceased would undergo autopsy to ascertain the cause of death.
