Oyo Govt Solicits Education Stakeholders Support Ahead Of 2020/2021 2nd Term School Resumption

The Oyo state government has solicited full support of all Education Stakeholders as the state prepares ahead of school resumption for the 2nd term of 2020/2021 academic session.

The Oyo state Honourable Commissioner for Education Science And Technology, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, made this known on behalf of the state government while addressing Education stakeholders conference which held at the conference room of the Ministry on Friday 8th January, 2021.

The Commissioner stated that academic activities in all public and private schools in the state will fully resume on Monday 11th January, 2021.

He explained that it is compulsory for every parent and guardian to ensure their children and wards leave home with a facemask stressing that any child without a facemask will not be allowed into the school premises.

Barr Olaleye warned all schools in Oyo state to ensure strict compliance to COVID-19 guidelines and regulations stressing that any school found violating the laid down guidelines or undermining the efforts of Oyo state government in combating the pandemic will be shut down immediately.

The commissioner who addressed stakeholders including public school administrators, headteachers, private school proprietors and other education administrators stated that the state has henceforth stopped all staggered classes that applied during the 1st term adding that all schools are to resume back into normal classes.

Speaking further, the commissioner explained that school food vendors who were initially halted from providing food for sale to students due to COVID-19 pandemic have now been asked to return to continue providing foods within school premises under strict compliance with COVID-19 regulations and guidelines in order to prevent students from been exposed to the pandemic while going outside the school in search of food.

He also added that school assembly in the morning by students before returning to their various classrooms will now return to school as morning devotions, daily nuggets, moral teachings on the assembly ground form key part of the children moral upbringing aside academic activities.

The Commissioner maintained that it is important for all schools including public and private primary and secondary schools to readily put in place COVID-19 committee as well as COVID-19 incident managers.

Speaking on behalf of Association of Coalition of Christian Schools, the Secretary to the body, Mrs Mobolade Akharume, commended the state government on behalf of other stakeholders for its efforts towards ensuring that education in the state does not suffer while combating COVID-19 pandemic.

They assured all that the state government has outlined as precaution for the forthcoming school resumption will be strictly adhered to in the interest of public health.
