*Oyo LG Chairmen Mark June 12, Back Rescue of Abducted Oriire Pupils, Teachers*

The Association of Local Government Chairmen in Oyo State has marked Democracy Day, describing June 12 as a symbol of resilience and commitment to democratic values.

In a joint statement by Chairman Sikiru Sanda and Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Akintayo, the chairmen reaffirmed their commitment to good governance and grassroots development.

They said June 12 remains a milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey, representing the people’s voice and sacrifices for accountable government.

The chairmen commended the Oyo State Government for efforts to ensure resident safety and pledged solidarity with ongoing efforts to rescue children and teachers abducted in Oriire LGA.

They said the state government was taking steps to secure the victims’ release, with local security forces and stakeholders supporting the rescue operation.

The association assured residents that LG administrations would continue working with security agencies and the state government to strengthen peace at the grassroots.

The chairmen also called for unity and public support for efforts to protect lives and property across the state.
