LAUTECH staff in physical combat over Governor’s 48m bonus

THE much-publicized end of year bonus (48m) to the staff of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, by the Governor of Oyo state, Engnieer Seyi Makinde, ended in controversy on Thursday, as staff fought over sharing formulae, which led to the shutting down of the school gates.
Staff of the Non academic unions had gathered for the protest on campus demanding for equal share of the free for all largesse released into the school kitty by Oyo state government for new year package.
The demonstration by the Non academic staff however led to the shutting down of the school gates and putting the Vice chancellor on house arrest for complete 14 hours.
Eye witnesses who briefed Mouthpiece NGR on the development said “It was a thug of war last week Thursday as Non Academic staff locked the school gates and disrupted activities to press home their demand”.
“The VC was locked up in his office since morning till 8pm after alert of 27k had been confirmed by all members”.
A source who preferred to be anonymous further said the leadership of the Non Academic staff Unions in a meeting with the management on 6th of January had stated that all members have equal right to same amount. “Vice chancellor can’t take more than anyone because it’s a bonus.”
The action demonstrated by the Non Academic Staff however forced ASUU to embark on Active Non Compliance for 3days and also leading to the postponement of the school matriculation for freshers, Mouthpiece NGR reliably gathered.
A source who frowned at the decision of the ASUU explained that the Union went on ANC to vent their anger because the bonus was shared equally. He said “A lecturer was already boasting he will receive 120k if the money is disbursed according to level”.
In a swift reaction a staff who pleaded anonymity faulted the decision of the Non Academic Staff to shut down the school gates and disrupted school activities over peanuts.
He said: The unrest situation probably forced ASUU to embark on Active Non Compliance for 3days. “ASUU members were frustrated on Thursday and had to take jungle to make their way out of the school premises”.
Speaking further, he decried the level of indiscipline on campus such that Non teaching Unions could have bold courage to lock their Vice chancellor in office for several hours over peanuts without any sanction.
“When management announced break and resumption for academic activities towards the festive periods, the Non Academic Staff failed to comply”
“ASUU resumed on 2nd of January as instructed by management but the Non Academic Staff Unions resumed on 6th of January.
“The Non Academic staff Unions didn’t attend the first meeting called by the school management to discuss about the bonus”.
The 48 million Naira bonus is said to be the money promised by the Oyo state government to all ministries in the state.

According to reliable source, “ASUU has rejected the bonus. “The Union is more concerned about the future of the school than feeding fat on Bonus”.
Mouthpiece NGR gathered that all tertiary institutions received the bonus including Corps members and civil servants who were paid 13 months salary.
At a time when Oyo state couldn’t complete the  payment of 500 million earlier promised by the Governor when he visited the school, the state released 48 million Naira Bonus to LAUTECH after paying 250 million out of the promised fund in December.
Facts check by Mouthpiece NGR however revealed that the Governor has released the remaining amount ( 250 million) this week to complete the 500 million widely publicized in November when he visited the school.
