LAUTECH SSANU Issues 7-Day Ultimatum, Declares 3-Day Warning Strike Over Non-Implementation Of 2026 Agreement

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Branch, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the university management and the Oyo State Government over the non-implementation of the 2026 FGN/SSANU Renegotiation Agreement.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairperson, Comrade Fajoye H. O., and Secretary, Comrade Owolawi O. J., after its Branch Congress held on Tuesday, 13th October, 2026, the union expressed displeasure over the continued delay in implementing the agreement, which was signed on 29th June, 2026, by the Federal Government and SSANU.

According to the union, while other universities in the South-West have fully implemented the agreement with necessary financial provisions made available, LAUTECH is yet to comply.

The congress, after extensive deliberations, resolved to demand the immediate and full implementation of the agreement, particularly the 35% salary adjustment as CONTTISS, earned allowances and other non-financial provisions applicable to its members.

The union also demanded the payment of all outstanding arrears arising from the agreement, earned allowances and other entitlements due to its members, with effect from 1st January, 2026.

SSANU declared that the seven-day ultimatum commences on Wednesday, 14th October, 2026, and expires at midnight on Tuesday, 20th October, 2026.

It further declared a three-day warning strike from Wednesday, 21st October, 2026, to Friday, 23rd October, 2026, if its demands are not met, warning that it may proceed to an indefinite, total and comprehensive industrial action if the issues remain unresolved.

“The patience of our members has been severely tested. The Union has demonstrated understanding and remained committed to the growth and development of the University. We have also exercised considerable restraint in the interest of industrial peace and the stability of the University’s academic calendar. However, in view of the prevailing economic realities and the continued delay in meeting our legitimate demands, the Congress considers that further delay is no longer acceptable,” the statement read.

The union urged the university management to treat the matter with urgency to avert an avoidable industrial crisis.
