Hon. Fatai Ketefe, Declares Bid for Ibadan North Chairmanship

Pledges grassroots development, youth empowerment and inclusive governance

Hon. Ketefe Fatai Ayinde, Special Assistant to the Member of the House of Representatives on Islamic Affairs (Muslim Wings), has officially declared his intention to contest for Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government.

In a statement released on Monday, Hon. Ketefe said his decision to run was driven by a commitment to transform Ibadan North local government area through people-centered leadership, accountability, and sustainable development.

Declaring his ambition, Hon. Ketefe noted that Ibadan North has the human and economic potential to become a model LGA in Oyo State, but requires visionary leadership to unlock it.

He said: “After wide consultations with stakeholders, party leaders, community heads, youth and women groups, I have resolved to offer myself for service as Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government.

“I am running to build a local government that works for everyone — from Bodija to Agodi, Sango to Mokola. We need a government that is present in the markets, in our schools, in our streets, and in the lives of our people.

Hon. Ketefe outlined key areas of focus for his administration to include:

Infrastructure & Security: Improving road networks, drainage, street lighting, and community policing in partnership with security agencies.

Youth & Women Empowerment: Skills acquisition, entrepreneurship grants, and job creation initiatives.

Education & Health: Upgrading primary healthcare centers and supporting public schools with learning materials.

Inclusive Governance: Strengthening engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, market associations, and people living with disabilities.

As SA on Islamic Affairs, he also pledged to promote religious harmony and support faith-based initiatives across the local government.

Describing himself as a grassroots mobilizer and loyal party man, Hon. Ketefe said his experience working closely with constituents through the office of the federal lawmaker has given him deep insight into the needs of Ibadan North residents.

He called on members of the APM in the local government to support his aspiration, promising an open-door administration that prioritizes transparency and service delivery.

“Leadership is about service, not self. I am prepared to serve with humility, listen to the people, and deliver results that we can all be proud of,” he added.

Hon. Ketefe however urged party members to remain united ahead of the forthcoming local government elections, saying a united front is critical to retaining and strengthening APM’s hold in Ibadan North.
