..As Ogbomoso Leaders Knock Ogunwuyi
Ahead of the 2027 general election, the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Engr. Muftau Open Salawu, has splashed a whopping sum of N5.5 million on members of the party in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen the party at the grassroots.
The empowerment programme, which witnessed a mammoth crowd of party faithful, was held on Tuesday at Methodist High School, Ogbomoso.
Addressing party leaders, elders, youths and supporters, Engr. Open Salawu disclosed that the cash empowerment will be done monthly across all wards in the local government to reposition and energize the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that more benefits await loyal party members.
He noted that the exit of the former Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, was long expected, stressing that his exit alongside his co-travelers marks an end to bad roads, poor representation and ineffective leadership in Ogbomoso South.
According to him, the departure of Ogunwuyi and others from the government and the party signals a new dawn for Ogbomoso South, assuring that loyal and committed party members will continue to benefit from dividends of democracy.
Open Salawu alleged that Ogunwuyi and his group were responsible for blocking several empowerment programmes and goodwill gestures of the Seyi Makinde administration from reaching the grassroots in Ogbomoso South and other councils in Ogbomoso zone.
In a show of generosity that electrified the gathering, Engr. Open Salawu instantly donated N5.5 million – with N200,000 allocated to each of the 10 wards, N20,000 each to 50 selected members drawn from across the wards (5 per ward), while an additional N500,000 was distributed to persons with disabilities, drivers, youths and elders, among others.
He reiterated that the empowerment scheme will continue on a monthly basis until the elections, emphasizing that the Bimbo/Open administration, if given the mandate in 2027, will open more opportunities and create inclusive prosperity for party members and the people of Oyo State.
Party members, who were visibly excited by the kind gesture and warm disposition of the APM Deputy Governorship candidate, described the meeting as one of the most thunderous and energetic gatherings witnessed in Ogbomoso South in recent times.
One of the party leaders who spoke with MOUTHPIECE NGR correspondent said that with the kind of demonstration of love and commitment shown by Engr. Open Salawu, nobody will miss Ogunwuyi in Ogbomoso South.
He noted that the massive turnout and wild jubilation that greeted Open Salawu’s arrival was a testament to his love for Ogbomoso development, evident in his several humanitarian and philanthropic interventions over the years.
The APM leaders and members, however, assured the deputy governorship candidate of massive votes ahead of the forthcoming general election, noting that the party remains fully on ground and formidable in Ogbomoso South.
It would be recalled that in the last 11 months, Engr. Open Salawu had donated over N10 million to Ogbomoso North Local Government chapter of the party, with insiders saying that the current gesture is just the tip of the iceberg as members of the party across the entire Ogbomoso zone will continue to benefit from his largesse in the coming months.
