The Deputy Chairman of the Southwest Forum of Secretaries to Local Governments (SWFSLG), Mrs. Temitope Aworele, has distanced herself from the purported endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, insisting that her support is solely for Governor Seyi Makinde as the next President in the 2027 general election.
This is coming at a time when the Southwest Forum of Secretaries to Local Governments has scheduled its official inauguration ceremony, endorsement of President Tinubu’s re-election, and a lecture session themed “Promoting Development and Administrative Excellence in the Southwest” for Wednesday at Oranmiyan Hall, Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.
Mrs. Aworele, who is the Forum Coordinator for Oyo State and Secretary to Egbeda Local Government, in a statement on Tuesday, said she will never be a party to the purported endorsement.
She explained that the forum was expected to be non-partisan and limit its programme to inauguration and lecture, but ended up including Tinubu’s re-election endorsement.
According to her, rather than support Tinubu’s re-election, she would pitch her tent with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who she described as competent and most qualified to become the next President of Nigeria.
She said: “Rather than support Tinubu’s re-election, I would rather pitch my tent with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who is competent and most qualified for the position to become the next President of Nigeria.
“I was not consulted, and I cannot be part of an endorsement that does not reflect my conviction. My position remains that Governor Makinde has the capacity, experience, and acceptability to lead Nigeria from 2027.”
Mrs. Aworele further urged members of the Forum to remain focused on grassroots development and administrative excellence rather than being dragged into premature presidential endorsements for political gains.
