Former Army Chief Tukur Buratai names those behind Nigeria’s security crisis

Former Army Chief Tukur Buratai has named those behind Nigeria’s security crisis.

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, has accused Nigeria’s political class of being responsible for the country’s persisting security crisis over the years.

This Nigeria news platform understands that the ex-army chief, who spoke during the 2023 National Service Lecture, said: “The insecurity being faced in the country since 2009 was the creation of the political class.”

He callled for a strong political will to tackle the issue and emphasized the need for politicians and public servants to live above corruption.

Buratai also criticized calls for his removal during his tenure, claiming that such demands were driven by personal biases rather than an objective assessment of his performance. He urged political actors to be more accountable and transparent.

In another development, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has issued a warning to terrorists, declaring that their days are numbered. Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the Defence Spokesman, confirmed that military operations have led to the elimination of 67 terrorists, the apprehension of 190 others, and the rescue of 47 kidnapped victims. These operations were conducted in various regions, including the North-west, North-east, and North-central zones.

Troops have also successfully recovered a substantial amount of weapons and ammunition, signaling a blow to the terrorist activities. The DHQ remains committed to denying terrorists, insurgents, and violent extremists the ability to achieve their objectives.
