Kwankwasiyya Singer, Tijjani Gandu Summoned Over Alleged Regulation Breach

The Kano State Censorship Board has summoned popular Kwankwasiyya praise singer, Tijjani Gandu, over alleged violation of its regulations.

The invitation was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman.

According to the statement, Gandu is expected to appear before the board to respond to an alleged breach linked to the release of a musical work without approval.

The board said its rules require musicians, writers and producers to submit songs, scripts and other materials for review and approval before public release, to ensure such works do not contain words or messages capable of inciting public disorder or disrupting peace.

“The Board would not allow individuals to deliberately disregard its regulations under the guise of exercising freedom of expression,” the statement said.

It reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law fairly without discrimination, and urged Gandu to honour the invitation, warning that failure to appear could be treated as non-compliance and may attract further action.
