Councillors of the Legislative Arm of Akinyele Local Government Council in Oyo State have impeached the Leader of the House, Mr. Lawal Mutiu, over alleged compromised procurement, inconsistent, lack of trust among others.

MOUTHPIECE NGR gathered that Mutiu was impeached on Tuesday, June 2023 at plenary when a member of the House, Mr Adedeji Shina from ward 10 moved a vote of no confidence on the leader.

The motion was said to have been supported by Olukunle Micheal Oluwafemi, Jimoh Oladare and Taofeeq Abolade.

An aide at the council, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, said that the House leader was impeached by 8 out of the 12 councillors in the House who appended their signatures.

He said, “Reasons for the impeachment as given were due to inconsistent, afraid to make decision, doesn’t step up to situation, self interest over others, lack of trust, dishonest, duplicitous forgets commitment, leakage of confidential information among others.

Efforts made to reach the House Leader on the matter failed as calls put across to his phone proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.

It was however gathered that the former Chief Whip of the House, Oluwafemi Micheal Adeleke has been elected as the new House leader.

Confirming the development, the new House leader, Mr Adeleke who provided some confidential documents and video evidence during a media chat with MOUTHPIECE NGR said that Honorable Jimoh Taofeek Olalere is now the new Chief Whip.
