Name your children, homes, mosques after the Companions of the Prophet (SAW)— Idris Alao urges Muslims

An Ilorin-based legal practitioner and promising scholar of Islamic law, Mr. Idris Alao, has called on Muslims in Nigeria to name their children, homes, mosques and other Islamic institutions, after the honourable Companions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Mr. Alao, an Educational Consultant with a number of Private Coventional Islamic Schools and Chief Operating Officer, Al Idrisi Hub for Studies and Translations, made this call in Ilorin, on Friday, 14th May, 2021.

In a statement made available to Mouthpiece NGR correspondent shortly after the Jumu’ah prayer at the Kwara State Sharia Court of Appeal Central Mosque, Ilorin, the Arabic-English-Arabic legal translator said:

“There are many takeaways from the numerous Tafseer sessions delivered by eminent Islamic scholars in the just concluded month of Ramadan. Sadly however, an unpleasant trend of maligning the personalities of the honourable Companions of the Prophet has been observed in a particular Tafseer session of a Yoruba cleric, whose penchant for disturbing well-settled positions in Islam is second to none. This ugly development has continued to rare its dirty head for a number of years and it seems there is no solution in the offing to curtail it.”

“Yoruba Muslims have heard this cleric, on countless occasions, calling the Companions of the Prophet (SAW) with unprintable names, including ascribing hypocrisy (Nifaq) to them and questioning the rationale for the saying of “Radiyallahu ‘anhu” anytime the name of a companion is mentioned. The position of Islamic law on people who curse, abuse or malign the honorable Companions is well known and interestingly, we have seen a number of scholarly rejoinders and refutations from competent scholars who not only deflated his heretical claims, but also made Muslims realize the need to draw red line that must not be crossed in matters involving the Companions of the best of mankind, especially on dissensions that occurred between them.”

“I therefore urge all Muslims, particularly those of Yoruba extraction, to name their children, homes, mosques and other Islamic institutions after the Companions of the Prophet (SAW) in order to instill the love of the Companions in the minds of all Muslims, particularly our children and youths. In this connetion therefore and in my capacity as the familial head of the nuclear family of Barr. Idris Alao, I hereby give the name; Daru Abubakar As Siddiq (Abubakar As Siddiq Villa) as the epithet of our home, in recognition of our love for the first Caliph of Islam -who doubles as the best of this Ummah, after our noble Prophet (SAW)- and his legacies. May Allah be pleased with all the Companions of the Prophet (SAW).” The statement concluded.
