Orire North LCDA Chair, Wahab Kareem empowers over 300 constituents with motorcycles, others

The Caretaker Chairman of Orire North Local Council Development Area, Hon. Wahab Kareem, has distributed empowerment materials as part of his poverty alleviation programmes for unemployed youths, farmers and constituents.

The empowerment program is in line with his vision to provide sustainable sources of income to residents while also reducing the poverty level in the LCDA.

Some of the items distributed include motorcycles popularly known as Okada, sewing machine, sprayers, grinding machine, chemicals and cash.

Mouthpiece NGR understands that Hon. Wahab Kareem is the first Caretaker Chairman to distribute Motorcycles to constituents in Oyo state.

While distributing the empowerment materials to beneficiaries, the Caretaker Chairman thanked His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde for setting the pace and making the platform available for his administration to serve and deliver the true dividends of democracy to his people.

He noted that the vision and mission of Governor Seyi Makinde led administration is to make Oyo state the Agribusiness hub in Nigeria, stressing that it is imperative for him to key-in into that roadmap by empowering farmers.

Hon. Kareem decried the level at which the global pandemic Covid-19– coupled with global warming and economic recession confronting our nation in the recent years have negatively affected the lives of our teeming youths and farmers, emphasizing that the distribution of various empowerment items is targeted across wards to cushion the effects.

“To the glory of God and the firm support of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, this Caretaker committee led by humble self have been able to provide portable water through the drilling of 26 hand-pump boreholes and repairs of several others across all towns and villages in the LCDA.”

“Grading of sizable numbers of feeder roads, repair of DAF low-bed trick and purchase of official vehicle for the office of the Chairman and Head of Local Government Administration among others,” he said.

A beneficiary who spoke with our correspondent after the program expressed her appreciation to the council boss for doing needful for the constituents. “I never expected this, I thought the materials would only be shared to moneybags but this is different.”

“Hon. Kareem has rekindled our hope and put smile on our face. The empowerment would make us to be independent,” she said.

The Monarch of Olokoto in his own remarks expressed gratitude to Governor Seyi Makinde for taking good care of the community. He noted that the chairman drilled borehole and did a lot of good work for the community.

“Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, Governor Makinde was proactive in his handling of the situation to an extent that farmers were not locked home and didn’t allow people to go on hunger”, Olokoto added.

Those present at the event include community leaders, Jowuro Fulani, party stalwarts, PDP leaders and religious leaders.
