Maolud Nabiy: Oyo Deputy Gov hosts Ibadan league of imams & Alfas as Makinde’s aides bag Excellent awards
It was a gaiety and fun on Saturday as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, hosted Ibadan league of imams and Alfas to launch in celebration of 1446 Eid-el-Maolud.
Following the Maolud program at Oja’oba Central Mosque, a lavish celebration was held at the Deputy Governor’s Bashorun home in Ibadan.
Notable government functionaries attended, such as Prof. Abdul-waheed Soliu Adelabu, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Magbonjubola Jagaban, Commissioner for Environment, Oyo PDP Secretary Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke, Chairman of the Civil Service Commission Alhaji Kamarudeen Aderibigbe, and awardees who were recognized for their contributions to the growth of Islam in Oyo State.
Also in attendance were Sheikh KK Oloso, NACOMYO Youth leader, Sheikh Afolabi Dawud, and members of Ibadan land Joint League of Imams and Alfas under the leadership of Chief Imam of Ibadan and Grand Imam of Oyo state, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiy Agbotomokekere, who offered special prayers for the Deputy Governor and his boss, Seyi Makinde.
Describing Bayo Lawal as a man of humility, the Ulamas equally commended him for his contributions to the growth of Islam in the state and for his effective representation of the Muslim community in the Makinde-led government.
Barr. Lawal made note of the Makinde-led administration’s commitment to advancing religious tolerance and peace in the state after leading a powerful delegation of Oyo state government figures to the Maolud Nabiyi celebration of the Ibadan League of Imams and Alfas, where some of the government functionaries received awards of excellence.
He congratulated Alhaji Akeem Azeez, Governor Makinde’s personal assistant, Sheikh Hashim Atere, the chairman of the Hajj Commission, Alhaji Abdul-azeez Abdul-Rasheed, the SA on Islamic Affairs, and Sheikh Adelani Ibrahim on their outstanding award, noting that each of them has contributed sufficiently in their own unique capacities to the advancement of Islam in the state.
The Deputy Governor equally lauded the awardees for their contributions to the accomplishments of the Makinde administration, pointing out that the state has benefited greatly from them.
He urged the recipients to keep up their efforts to the growth of Islam in the state, stressing that their recognition by the Ibadan Muslim community has already established a strong basis.
Barr. Lawal, however, pledged to make a sufficient contribution towards addressing some of the challenges faced by the Oja’ba central mosque.
“O behalf of His Excellency, Seyi Makinde, I congratulate all the awardees and I urge them to be united and continue to foster religious harmony and peace in the state,” he said.
Speaking earlier on behalf of the other recipients, the PA to Governor Makinde, Alhaji Akeem Azeez, expressed gratitude to the chief imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Agbotomokekere for the award of recognition, describing him as “humility personified”.
He specially expressed gratitude to Oyo Deputy Governor for making the event memorable for them, as well as commended him on his excellent representation of Islam and the Makinde-led administration, and prayed Allah continue to bless him.
Alhaji Azeez emphasised that the Deputy Governor has indeed set a bench mark for his good representation of the Muslim community, adding that he’s a pride of islam.
He, however, thanked everyone who graced the occasion saying, Jazakumullahu Khairan.
The event was attended by Oyo Deputy Speaker, Abiodun Fadeyi; House of Assembly members and Oyo government functionaries, Alhaji Olopoeyan and host of others.
