Police Arrest 5 Suspected Gang Members, Recover ₦1.45m Drugs In Nawfia Raid

Operatives of the *Anambra State Police Command* have arrested five suspected members of a criminal gang during a raid on a hideout in *Nawfia, Njikoka Local Government Area*.

The operation, carried out on *Thursday, August 20, 2026* by the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, led to the recovery of illicit drugs valued at *₦1.45 million*, vandalized electrical wires, *₦72,550 cash*, and a suspected fake *US $100 note*.

This was disclosed in a statement on *Friday, August 21*, by the Police Public Relations Officer, *SP Tochukwu Ikenga*.

According to the statement, the raid was conducted at about *12:48 p.m.* following intelligence on criminal activities in the area.

The five suspects arrested are: *Omogo Obinna, 29; Okechukwu Nwagba, 28; Echezona Okonkwo, 29; Awal Umar, 23; and Ogadinma Boniface, 33*.

SP Ikenga said the following items were recovered from the hideout: suspected *Cannabis Sativa, Indian Hemp, Canadian Loud, Colorado, Black Mamba and Loud*, vandalized electrical cables, cash, and the counterfeit $100 note.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects are allegedly part of a criminal network operating in the area.

The PPRO added that the suspects made useful statements during interrogation and mentioned other members of the gang. Efforts are ongoing to track down those still at large.

Reacting to the development, the *Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama*, commended the operatives for the successful operation. He directed that the investigation be thorough and professional, and ordered intensified efforts to apprehend fleeing suspects.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to tackling drug-related offences, vandalism and other crimes in the state, and urged residents to provide credible information to help security agencies disrupt criminal networks.
