Rep Ojo Sunday Makanjuola (SMATO) facilitates another set of solar streetlights to Arolu ward in Surulere LG
The House of Representatives member, representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola SMATO has donated solar streetlights to the Arolu ward residents housing about ten villages in the Surulere Local Government as part of his effort to strengthen security architecture in the area.
Smato, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Friendship Group to Pakistan, and Deputy Chairman House Committee of Solid Minerals, said the solar street lights would be a great extent curb for many nefarious acts during dark hours, thereby contributing to the security measures already on ground in the area as provided by the Oyo state Government.
The lawmaker who spoke with journalists on Tuesday after the handing over ceremony noted that the facilitation is just one of the year projects he has facilitated to his constituency.
According to him, some other similar installations of solar street lights are visible to everyone on the street in several communities, across the constituency.
He added that the project is meant to light up dark spots around the communities, increase social and economic activities, and reduce criminal activities in various benefiting communities.
The federal lawmaker, however, urged community leaders and residents of the various communities to take ownership of the lights and other government infrastructure to prevent vandalism.
He said: “This project and other numerous ones I have facilitated were meant to enhance the quality of lives of the people and should not be destroyed.
“This and many more are the community-focused projects we have facilitated, and we are committed to doing more. And I can assure you of continuous quality representation.”
A resident of Arolu ward, Hon. Okunlola Rahamon, who spoke to journalists on the development, commended Hon. Smato for the laudable initiative.
He said: “The fact that Hon. Smato facilitated this solar street lights to our community is simply an indication that he is sensitive to our plight, and the project would go a long way in illuminating our roads.”
