“What could be the offence of a 77-year-old politician”— Oyo APC accuses PDP
The All Progressive Congress in Oyo State has pointed the finger at the ruling Peoples Democratic Party for the killing of one of its leaders in the state, Alhaji Oreitan Babatunde.
The 77-year-old was killed in his Ibadan residence by unknown people on Wednesday.
Mouthpiece NGR had on Wednesday evening reported the killing of the chieftain by unknown gun men who was shot dead after observing his afternoon prayers.
In a statement issued by the party publicity Secretary, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olatunde, the APC described the killing as “wicked and heartless”.
The party urged the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Shina Olukolu, to fish out Babatunde’s killers and prosecute them.
It also blamed the killing on the failure of the PDP government to provide adequate security.
The statement read, “What the public will perceive as trivial was the achievement of eight years in the provision of safety of life and property which was the number one achievement of the Abiola Ajimobi government between 2011 and 2019.
“The Seyi Makinde government and his party have been targeting leaders of the leading opposition party within some months of coming to power. The act was carried out today (Wednesday) by 3pm.”
Olatunde added, “What could be the offence of a 77-year-old politician?
“We are urging the security outfit in Oyo State to kindly unravel the identity of the heartless killer gang hell-bent on silencing the opposition in Oyo State.
“It is on record that Nigeria is running three tiers of government. We are dismayed that the state government is desperately determined to refuse the elected local government chairmen from serving the people.”
