Agboworin Lauds Makinde for Renewing Wage Award, Restoring Transport Subsidy

The lawmaker representing Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East Federal Constituency, Hon. Abass Adigun Agboworin, has commended Governor Seyi Makinde for extending the wage award for civil servants and sustaining the transport subsidy in Oyo State.

Recall that Governor Makinde, upon resumption to office during a brief welcome ceremony by government officials on Friday, had announced a three-month extension of the wage award for state workers, alongside the continuation of the transport subsidy introduced to cushion rising transportation costs.

Agbowrin, in a statement through his Media Group, described the decision as timely and compassionate, especially at a time when workers and families are grappling with rising cost of living.

He noted that the continuation of both measures shows that the Makinde administration is attentive to economic realities and is willing to deploy government resources to ease the burden on workers.

He added that the interventions would provide relief to civil servants, particularly given the ripple effect of high transport costs on household expenses.

His words: “The renewal of the wage award and the continuation of the transport subsidy are commendable decisions at this time. They show that Governor Seyi Makinde understands the realities our people are facing and is prepared to take practical steps to ease their burden,” Agboworin said.

“This is not just about announcing policies; it is about putting measures in place that directly affect the lives of ordinary people. Workers will feel the impact of this intervention in their daily lives.”

The lawmaker however said the Governor’s action reflects a people-oriented approach to governance and offers lessons that could be applied at the national level.

He added that the Governor’s ability to respond to economic pressures with targeted interventions demonstrates that government can make a meaningful difference when citizens’ welfare remains central to policymaking.

He urged civil servants to reciprocate the gesture by remaining committed to their duties and ensuring efficient service delivery to the people of Oyo State.
