“Even if you’re 100% blind from birth… you’re going to see.” — Elon Musk
Elon Musk says Neuralink plans to implant its first Blindsight vision devices within the next 6 to 12 months, with the goal of restoring vision by sending signals directly to the brain’s visual cortex—bypassing the eyes entirely.
While Musk envisions a future where the technology could eventually enable infrared, ultraviolet, and even radar-like vision, the initial versions are expected to provide low-resolution visual perception, with significant rehabilitation required, especially for people who have been blind since birth.
Neuralink’s Blindsight has already received the U.S. FDA’s Breakthrough Device designation, accelerating its development as the company continues expanding human brain-computer interface trials.
