FUTO Students Protest After 100-Level Student Dies in Man O’ War Custody
MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that Students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), staged protests Wednesday following the reported death of a 100-level Cybersecurity student while in the custody of Man O’ War Nigeria cadets.
The student was allegedly detained by the cadets over an accusation of stealing N13,000.
Eyewitnesses on campus alleged the student was physically assaulted for hours while in detention, despite appeals for restraint from other students.
Sources however said the student became unresponsive overnight while still in custody, sparking outrage across the campus.
Protesters marched through the university demanding justice, a full investigation into the death, and accountability for anyone found culpable.
In response to rising tension, the university authorities have reportedly suspended all Man O’ War activities on campus indefinitely, pending the outcome of investigations.
As of press time, neither FUTO management nor Man O’ War Nigeria had issued an official statement detailing the incident or confirming the circumstances of the student’s death.
