..Backs Makinde for president
The lawmaker representing Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin), has said he does not fear Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja who recently left the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), insisting the politician has never won his ward.
Agboworin stated this during the latest edition of the Open Forum 360 podcast anchored by Dare Adekanmbi, where he spoke on political developments, Governor Seyi Makinde’s presidential ambition and the need for the Federal Government to tackle drug abuse among Nigerian youths.
Speaking on Arapaja’s political influence, the lawmaker dismissed suggestions that he posed a threat to him.
“Truth is, we don’t miss Arapaja in the APM. I don’t fear him because I am an ex-military officer. Since I have known him, he has never won Ward 2, which is his ward. So, why do I need to fear him?” Agboworin said.
He noted that electoral performance at the grassroots should be a key yardstick for assessing a politician’s strength.
In a related development, Agboworin expressed support for Governor Makinde’s presidential ambition, describing it as timely.
He described Makinde as smart, young and intellectual, with the qualities required to lead Nigeria.
Beyond politics, Agboworin raised alarm over rising drug abuse among Nigerian youths.
As Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Narcotic Drugs, he warned that the country faces a serious challenge that requires urgent attention.
“There is tsunami on top all of us, which the Federal Government is not paying attention to,” he said.
He called for stronger public awareness, preventive education, access to treatment and rehabilitation, and enforcement against illegal drug distribution.
