Iran Says It Struck US Air Base In Jordan, Claims Fighter Jets Destroyed
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps said Thursday it fired 12 ballistic missiles at Al-Azraq Air Base in Jordan, which hosts US F-35, F-15, and F-16 fighter jets, in retaliation for US strikes on Iran.
In a statement, the IRGC’s Aerospace Force said it targeted the base and “key facilities belonging to the US military.” The Guard claimed the attack destroyed facilities at the base and a large number of American fighter jets stationed there. The claims could not be independently verified.
The IRGC said the strikes were in response to US missile attacks on a recreational site, an industrial complex, and areas near Karaj and Nazarabad west of Tehran, as well as a Revolutionary Guard base in Pishva County.
The Guard said its operations would continue as long as “enemy aggression” persists.
Earlier Thursday, the IRGC said it struck 18 major US military targets, including Ali Al Salem and Ahmad Al Jaber bases in Kuwait and Sheikh Isa base in Bahrain. Iranian military statements also announced attacks on Patriot missile systems, communications facilities, and the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
The latest exchanges came amid rapidly escalating tensions after US strikes on southern Iran and Iranian retaliatory attacks on US assets across the region.
