2027: SMATO Backs Makinde’s Presidential Ambition, Urges National Support

The member representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, popularly known as _SMATO_, has backed Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, following his declaration to contest the presidency in 2027 on the platform of the African Peoples Movement (APM).

In a statement issued on Friday, SMATO described Makinde’s decision as bold and courageous, saying it reflects the governor’s commitment to national development, good governance, and people-oriented leadership.

He said Makinde’s leadership style, administrative competence, and record of achievements in Oyo State have earned him national recognition, adding that his entry into the presidential race would enrich public debate on leadership and development.

“Governor Makinde’s emergence on the national stage reflects the growing desire among Nigerians for visionary, pragmatic, and result-driven leadership capable of repositioning the country for greater progress and unity,” SMATO stated.

The lawmaker further stated that Makinde’s decision was driven by the need to address what he described as lopsided governance, poor performance, and leadership failure under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He argued that Nigeria needs a leader with proven administrative experience, strong grassroots connection, and a clear commitment to public welfare.

While acknowledging the country’s recent challenges, SMATO urged Nigerians not to lose hope but to unite behind credible leadership that can restore confidence in governance and democracy.

He equally described Makinde as a politician with the pedigree, experience, and human-centered approach needed to deliver democratic dividends and promote inclusive governance nationwide.

SMATO, however, called on Nigerians at home and abroad to support Makinde’s presidential ambition, expressing confidence that his emergence would help transform Nigeria into a nation that meets the aspirations of its people.
