Makinde pledges continuous support for education development
A scholarship recipient from Olorunsogo Local Government Area, Elizabeth Ayodele Oladejo, has been named the overall best graduating student of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University (Tech‑U) with a CGPA of 4.95.
Oladejo, who earned her degree in Statistics, was honoured at the university’s 5th convocation ceremony, attended by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Abdul‑Raheem Adebayo Lawal.
During the 2025 convocation, the Deputy Governor emphasized that education is “sine qua non” to the current administration, which remains committed to investing in the infrastructure of Tech‑U.
He noted that positive impact can emerge from any part of the state, pointing out that the top graduate hails from the remote zone of Olorunsogo Local Government.
Barr. Lawal praised the remarkable achievements of Tech‑U despite the challenges it has faced, saying they reflect the vision of the late Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who sought to establish an innovation‑driven university.
He added that the story of Tech‑U continues to unfold and that the government will provide the necessary support to realize its founding principles and strategic goals.
The Deputy Governor assured that the Makinde administration remains committed to offering the critical support needed to realize the unique vision of the University.
According to him, our interventions so far include: Sustaining the ALGON Scholarship Programme; Allocating one of the new Primary Health Centres to serve the University community; Commencing the rehabilitation of internal roads within the campus; Enhancing campus security through expanded perimeter fencing; Establishing an Amotekun Security Base at the University entrance, with routine internal patrols; Achieving a significant reduction in theft and property vandalism on campus, as confirmed by security reports. Most significantly, the inclusion of Tech-U in the 2026 State Budget for subvention marks a new phase in our support strategy.
While the university remains committed to its self‑sustaining model, the Deputy Governor said the government recognises the need to strengthen it during these formative years and that more targeted investments should be expected as the institution moves toward a sustainable future.
Barr. Lawal assured that Tech‑U will continue to receive targeted support, citing the inclusion of the university in the 2026 State Budget for subvention, ongoing road rehabilitation, expanded security measures, and the establishment of an Amotekun security base on campus.
In his address to the graduands, the Deputy Governor urged them to be curious, courageous, law‑abiding, and relentless in pursuing excellence, and to use their knowledge and character to impact the world positively. He congratulated their parents and guardians and thanked the university’s Governing Council, led by Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan, the Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Adesola Ajayi, and the entire staff for their dedication to quality education and innovation.
The ceremony was also attended by several government officials, including Deputy Chief of Staff Hon. Kazeem Bibire, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology Segun Olayiwola, Commissioner for Establishment and Training Prof. Soliu Adelabu, and Commissioner for Works and Transport Mojeed Mogbonjubola.
