CCII: Adekanmbi Receives CPA for Outstanding Service to Christian Causes in Ibadan
It was a moment of joy, camaraderie and reflection on outstanding contributions to humanity and the Christian community when former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the Ibadan Airport Upgrade Project, Hon. Abimbola Adekanmbi, was honored on Saturday with a prestigious award in recognition of his remarkable service to Christian causes in Ibadanland during the 2025 CCII Christmas Carol.
The ceremony took place at the Engr. Seyi Makinde Pavilion, Olubadan Palace, Oke‑Aremo, Ibadan, as part of an inter‑denominational carol celebrating the spirit of Christmas.
In attendance were numerous individuals who have made significant contributions to Christian causes in Ibadanland, as well as sons and daughters of the city.
While receiving the award on behalf of Hon. Adekanmbi, Hon. Mathew Oyeniyi expressed gratitude for the Christian Prestigious Award (CPA) presented by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), describing it as a challenge to do even more.
Oyeniyi emphasized the importance of giving one’s best in all endeavors, noting that people are always watching. “If you’re doing well, people notice,” he added. “That’s why Hon. Adekanbi seeks avenues to be a blessing, and he will continue to do so.”
According to Hon. him, any position of service is a privilege, and to be carried out wholeheartedly, with the understanding that every action is recorded.
He also appealed to the well‑to‑do to give back to society, explaining that Hon. Adekanmbi’s philanthropy stems from his humble beginnings and his passion for helping people.
Finally, Oyeniyi conveyed Hon. Adekanmbi’s appreciation to the Olubadan, the President‑General, and the Executive Council of CCII for deeming him worthy of the honor.
MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that Adekanmbi has, for the past several years, provided over 300 free UTME forms for youths and scholarships to any federal university of their choice for the top students from the nine local governments in Ibadan and the Ibarapa zone. All of Adekanmbi’s youth‑empowerment programmes target brilliant but financially‑handicapped students, with the sole aim of building a vibrant youth cohort that will contribute positively to their communities and to society at large.
He has on numerous occasions awarded bursaries totalling five million naira to 120 Oyo‑State indigenes across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. Adekanmbi continues to implement social programmes such as the COVID‑19 Intervention, which saw the distribution of hand sanitizers to markets throughout Oyo State and food items to every local government. He also donated N1 million to U.C.H., Ibadan, to support efforts against the COVID‑19 scourge.
Even before his appointment as chairman of the airport‑upgrade project, Adekanmbi had consistently displayed philanthropic gestures across Ibadan land and contributed to its development. An act that which may be part of the reason he’s being recognized by CCII.
