I’m ready to follow Adeleke to Accord party, says PDP chieftain, Oyinlola
Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has expressed that Governor Ademola Adeleke would have a stronger prospect of securing re-election if he contests under the Accord Party, rather than the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Vanguard reports.
Speaking during a Yoruba talk show on Rave FM, Oyinlola noted that the ADC lacked the political strength needed for a serious governorship campaign in Osun State.
His remarks came in response to concerns voiced by Kamorudeen Ajisafe, the PDP’s South-West Deputy National Vice Chairman, who recently cautioned that the internal crisis within the PDP might hinder the party’s ability to field a candidate for the 2026 governorship race.
Oyinlola, however, suggested that should Adeleke choose to leave the embattled PDP, the Accord Party would offer a more dependable and reputable platform.
He further mentioned that Adeleke is expected to finalise his defection plans upon his return to the country.
The ex-governor ruled out the possibility of Adeleke joining either the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) or the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), stating that such affiliations could provoke unnecessary ethnic bias.
He said: “The current situation in our party is troubling for all of us, but given the circumstances, Governor Adeleke will find a way forward.
“Our governor is aiming for a second term, but with the ongoing national crisis, the outcome remains uncertain… We’ve witnessed similar events in Zamfara, where a party won elections from top to bottom, only for the courts to later invalidate their nominations due to procedural issues, ultimately awarding victory to our party, the PDP.
Speaking further, Oyinlola said the party elders in the state have debated Adeleke’s defection, which he stated will soon be finalized.
“We, the party elders, once deliberated on the idea of moving to the APC. However, based on my past dealings with them, I understand their nature. I cannot follow the governor into the APC. They failed to honor their commitments to me, despite my significant contributions to the party’s formation” he added.
