If America can cure and eliminate the terrorists, I’ll welcome it myself— Gumi
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has responded to United States President Donald Trump’s comments about possibly sending American troops to Nigeria over the alleged genocide of Christians in the country. The move comes after Trump designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) following reports of religious killings and attacks.
In an interview with Voice of the People TV, Gumi criticized the idea of U.S. military intervention, saying America’s involvement in other nations like Iraq, Libya, and Syria only led to more confusion and bloodshed. He explained that the problem of terrorism in Nigeria is complex and cannot be solved by foreign military power.
Gumi stated that if the Americans could completely eliminate the terrorists, he would welcome their help, but he does not believe they can. “If Americans can cure and eliminate the terrorists, I will welcome it myself, but I know they cannot,” he said.
He pointed out that the terrorists have deeply infiltrated Nigerian society, making it impossible to simply bomb them out without causing greater harm.
The cleric warned that any military action from the U.S. could worsen the situation, leading to more deaths among both Muslims and Christians. He stressed that what Nigeria needs is not more violence but a thoughtful and united approach to solving insecurity.
