Ibadan State Creation: Group Lauds Agboworin, Calls for Unity Among Stakeholders

The Reformers’ Club, a sociopolitical group based in Ibadan, has commended Rep. Abass Adigun (Agboworin) for sponsoring a bill to create Ibadan State with 32 local government areas. In a statement signed by its Coordinator, Alhaji Usman Aderibigbe, the Group described the move as a collective effort that deserves support from all stakeholders in Ibadan.

“We commend Agboworin for taking a bold step to sponsor this bill, which addresses the long-standing demands for justice, recognition, development, and identity that have been denied to the people of Ibadan for far too long,” the statement read.

The Group believes that creating Ibadan State would bring numerous benefits, including more political offices, direct access to federal allocations, and the power to make local decisions. This, in turn, could lead to tailored development, improved infrastructure, healthcare, and education.

The Reformers’ Club urged all stakeholders to support the initiative and work towards making it a reality. “Unity among Ibadan people is crucial, and different communities must put aside their differences and agree on boundaries, political representation, and leadership of the new state,” the statement emphasized.

The Group acknowledged the legislative process ahead, noting that the bill would require multiple readings, public hearings, and Senate and House agreement, followed by presidential assent.

“We believe that Agboworin’s intentions are genuine and in line with the aspirations of the people. We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to support this initiative and join the struggle for justice, equality, and development,” the statement concluded.
