The Oyo State Acting Governor, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, on Thursday, led an inspection of ongoing projects under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) in the state.

‎The Acting Governor was accompanied by the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye.

‎The tour began with the 22-kilometre Iseyin–Ikere Gorge Dam road, Iseyin and continued to other sites, including the Oja Agbe Farmers’ Market in Iseyin and the 37-kilometre Ijaye–Atan (RR) Ido road, which links the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) in Akinyele Local Government to Ido Local Government.

The Acting Governor, who had earlier inspected the 28km Iseyin-Ikere Gorge Dam road in July, also conducted a full inspection of the ongoing Farmers’ Market at Oja Agbe, Araromi, Iseyin.

During the visit, he advocated for the construction of a police station at the site.

Barr Lawal stated that the projects aim to boost infrastructure development, creating an enabling environment for agricultural activities, thereby by making transportation of farm produce easier.

However, while inspecting the Oyo State Agribusiness Industrial Hub, Ijaiye, under the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone in Akinyele Local Government, the Acting Governor said the ongoing construction is part of Governor Seyi Makinde’s commitment and dedication to the development of Oyo State through agriculture and food security.

While urging the contractors to hasten their work and ensure that the project is delivered on schedule, the Acting Governor maintained these projects are key to Governor Makinde’s agenda to unlock the vast agricultural potentials and create opportunities for Oyo State resident.

However, speaking with newsmen, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Barr. Olaleye, said that the purpose of the Acting Governor’s inspection is to ensure that the project is delivered on schedule and to ensure that a quality job is done.

He said: “So far, the job is progressing and the government will continue to monitor what the contractors are doing. There is a timeline. Most of the jobs have to be completed between the middle of next year. We will continue to ensure that we follow through and deliver to the people of Oyo state.”

The commissioner noted that the roads inspected will assist the farmers to be able to move their farm produce from their settlement to the city center where they can meet the market, adding that the road is creating access and expanding their businesses and will also make life easier for the people around the place.

The RAAMP projects are being executed in partnership with the Oyo State Government, the Federal Government, the World Bank, and the French Government.
