Smato empowers over 200 market women with 100k grant In Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency
The lawmaker representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola Smato has empowered over 200 market women in his constituency with a sum of one hundred thousand (100) naira grant to boost their business.
The empowerment program, aimed at enhancing productivity, creating jobs, and increasing the income of several families, is among a series of interventions by the lawmaker targeted at improving the livelihoods of the people of Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the 2-day training workshop and empowerment program for market women in fishery production, in collaboration with the National Agricultural Development Fund, which kickstarted at Yiron event centre on Friday, Hon Smato noted that the program is organized in an effort to increase food production, create employment, and reduce poverty.
The lawmaker, who was represented by Hon. Okunola Rahmon, popularly known as Madeola, declared the empowerment programs open.
He commended the participants for taking part in the maiden and specialized training program that was organized just for women.
According to him, fishery production was an important aspect of the nation’s agricultural development because of its huge consumption, by virtually every segment of the country.
Smato, who is the chairman of the House Committee on Friendship Group to Pakistan, and the deputy chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals, noted that the decision to provide the constituents with N100,000 was motivated by the contribution that women make to the socioeconomic development of the constituency as a source of support for their families, the community, and the constituency.
He promised to keep prioritizing the well-being and welfare of women and girls first as they are important contributors to the economy and give families and the community the much-needed support they require as mothers, carers, and business owners.
In his words: “We will keep empowering women in small businesses in the Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency by offering constituents opportunities to increase household incomes through a variety of interventions.
“This action is part of a number of empowerment initiatives and interventions to show my dedication to my constituents’ welfare and well-being, fulfilling my duty of care and offering the good people of Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency competent and effective representatives.”
