Oyo Celebrates First International Day of Sign Language with Advocacy Walk
The Oyo State Association of the Deaf, in collaboration with the Association of Sign Language Interpreters in Nigeria, today commemorated the first International Day of Sign Language with an advocacy walk and rally.
The Chairman, Mr. Abiodun Kolawole, kicked off the event by expressing his heartfelt appreciation to Governor Seyi Makinde for his tireless efforts in making Oyo State a safe haven for people with disabilities, He also commended Barrister Adekambi for his paternal support and Honorable Timothy Olufemi for his unwavering commitment to the disability community.
“We are grateful for Governor Makinde’s dedication to creating an inclusive environment for all citizens, regardless of ability,” said Mr. Kolawole.
“Barrister Adekambi’s guidance and Honorable Olufemi’s advocacy have been invaluable to our community.”
The event featured keynote speeches from notable figures, including the Chairman of the Deaf Community, Mr. Moruf Yusuf Adekunle, and Hon. Olufemi Timothy.
The speakers emphasized the importance of cooperation and inclusive programs to support individuals with disabilities.
In a symbolic gesture, a sign language dictionary was presented to Hon. Olufemi Timothy, who pledged to learn and promote sign language among his family.
This event demonstrates the ongoing commitment to improving the lives of people with disabilities in Oyo State.
