Oyo Acting Governor Calls On OAAN Collaboration With Govt to Enhance Environmental Aesthetics

The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Barrister Bayo Lawal, has urged advertising agencies to collaborate with the government in improving the aesthetic appeal of the environment.

He made this call on Thursday during a meeting with the executive members of the Out of Home Advertising Association of Nigeria (OAAN), led by its President, Rotarian Olusola Akinsiku, at his office.

Barr. Lawal emphasized the significant impact that billboards and advertisements have on the environment, urging the association to contribute to the sanitation efforts in Oyo State.

He also called on the association to implement necessary legislative measures to ensure compliance in the erection of billboards across the state.

Furthermore, the acting Governor encouraged the association to actively promote their presence both in Oyo State and across Nigeria to raise awareness about their role in the advertising industry.

He assured the association of the state government’s active participation in the 39th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of OAAN, scheduled for August 16, 2024.

During the meeting, Rotarian Olusola Akinsiku, President of OAAN, highlighted the association’s role in representing brand owners and enhancing the value of their brands. He noted that the current economic climate has driven brand owners to seek greater value from Out of Home (OOH) media platforms.

Akinsiku announced that the 39th AGM, themed “Oluyoye 2024: Redefining Out of Home Media in Nigeria – The Practice, The Business, and Value Creation,” would focus on value creation for both brand owners and media platform asset owners.

He explained that Ibadan was chosen as the host city for this year’s AGM due to its historical significance and status as a leading city in the Southwest.

Akinsiku also expressed concerns about the cluttered positioning of billboards in Ibadan, calling on the government to work closely with the association to regulate advertising agencies and enhance the cleanliness of the environment in both Ibadan and Oyo State.

The meeting was attended by key state officials, including the Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperative, Mr. Adeniyi Adebisi; the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade; and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo, among others.
