Oyo Lawmaker, Bisi Oluranti, Seeks Makinde’s Urgent Intervention Over Collapsed Iwagba Bridge

Oyo State lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, Hon. Bisi Oluranti Micheal, has appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde for urgent intervention following the collapse of the Iwagba River Bridge in Ogbomoso North Local Government Area.

The bridge reportedly collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday, after a heavy downpour, cutting off vehicular and pedestrian movement along the vital route.

Several communities have been thrown into uncertainty by the development. They include Iwagba, Apake, Igbo Agboin, Mary Land and Pakiotan.

Access to Ori Oke Community High School and other adjoining areas has also been significantly disrupted.

Residents said the bridge had deteriorated over the years, with repeated appeals for government intervention yielding no result.

They noted that community members had made efforts to maintain the structure on their own.

But reacting to the incident, Hon. Bisi Oluranti urged Governor Makinde to facilitate immediate repairs, stressing that the bridge’s importance extends beyond Iwagba community.

She noted that the collapsed bridge could have serious consequences for students, traders, farmers, artisans and other residents who rely on the route for their daily activities.

The lawmaker further appealed for urgent government action to restore access and prevent the affected communities from becoming increasingly isolated.

“It’s important for the government to treat the situation as an emergency, particularly because of its implications for education, commerce, agriculture and the general socio-economic activities of residents in the affected areas. So, on this note, I am also calling on the commissioner for Works and Transport to act immediately,” she said.
