Ogbomoso: Oniyaku of Yaku land Annual Egungun festival holds July 18

The Oniyaku of Yaku land in Ogbomoso North Local Government, Oyo state, Oba Ojewumi Sunday Oyeniyi has disclosed that the annual egungun festival, tagged, “ARI-IGBA-ASO-TESUN ILE IYAKU 2024” will hold on July 18.

This was disclosed by Oba Oyeniyi in a statement made available to newsmen in Ogbomoso on Tuesday.

The royal father said the festival would showcase Ogbomoso’s rich cultural legacy and potential and will draw both local and international visitors in search of tourists. 

He noted that the masquerade named Ari igba Asotesun is a cherished tradition passed down from our forefathers since time immemorial. Our ancestors have greatly benefited from the presence of this masquerade.

In his words: “This masquerade plays a crucial role in praying for the progress of our town, promoting peace, and creating a sense of tranquility among its people.

“Ari igba Asotesun is known for its peaceful nature and is not associated with any troublemaking or inciting violence.

“The masquerade always makes sacrifices on the day it appears, signifying its dedication and commitment.”

Oba Oyeniyi noted that the festival has been well-packaged with good contents through rich cultural legacy and tradition preservation for future generations. 

He, however, urged the good people of Ogbomoso to come out en-mass to celebrate the annual egungun festival, noting that the festival is basically to promote peace and tranquility in the town.
