Oyo Gov’t didn’t order removal of Islamic Mission Primary School roof in Ibadan North East— Edu Comm. Adelabu
The Oyo State Government has refuted rumours circulating that it ordered the roof of an Islamic Mission Primary school, Agugu, in Ibadan North East, to be removed, saying that the claim was untrue.
The reaction is coming barely 24hours after a video had surfaced on social media alleging that the state government ordered approval of the school roof removal.
Addressing journalists on Friday, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abdulwaheed Soliu Adelabu said that at no time did he ordered removal of roof in any school.
Professor Adelabu stated that the school’s management revealed at an emergency meeting held on Friday at his office that one Mr. Akintomide George, Education Secretary (ES) of Ibadan North East, was the one who ordered the roof removal vandalising blocks of five classrooms.
The commissioner who said he was unaware of the development until a video was made available to him on Thursday, added that he has given an instruction to the SUBEB chairman to issue query to Head Teachers in Islamic Mission Primary School and to the Education Secretary of North East and South East till thorough investigations on the matter is concluded.
He said: “Contrary to the ongoing speculations, we wish to make it clear that Oyo Government did not order destruction or roof removal of Islamic Mission Primary School in Ibadan North East.
“Following our meeting with the school management, we were reliably informed that one Mr Akintomide George who is the Education Secretary (ES) of Ibadan North East was behind the removal.
“So, the ministry of Education, Science and Technology, have given an instruction to the SUBEB chairman to issue query to two Head of Teachers and Two Education Secretaries of school 1 and school 2 until when we get to the root of the matter.”
The Head Master of Islamic Mission Primary School, Mrs Kolapo Enoh, who also confirmed the development, noted that the roof removal had started since March 27.
She said, “When I tried to ask Mr Akintomide who ordered the removal, he replied, ‘I should not query his authority’.”
