BREAKING: NLC announces new update on nationwide strike

The Organised Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Tuesday have announced new update on the planned nationwide strike.

NLC said it is reconsidering its decision to embark on a nationwide strike on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

The strike is scheduled to begin with a mass protest.

NLC had on Monday disclosed that the nationwide strike is to protest the removal of petroleum subsidy which has inflicted hardships on Nigerians across the country.

However, after the rescheduled presidential steering committee on palliatives meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, Emma Ugbaja, general secretary, NLC, said President Bola Tinubu’s announced measures were welcomed although they were not comprehensive enough.

Ugbaja said the labour unions would consult with its members to reach a consensus on the next course of

action before the day ends.
