What we’ll do if thugs snatch BVAS – INEC

Before the general elections in February and March, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed what it would do if thugs stole the Bimodal Voter Registration Systems (BVAS) on election day. 

Lawrence Bayode, the Deputy Director of Information and Communications Technology for the Commission, said on Wednesday that the voting body has a way to turn off any stolen BVAS.

Bayode who disclosed this on a special election show on Channels Television, said: “If a BVAS is stolen, we already have a system in place that can turn off that BVAS.

“The (bad guys) can’t take over the process of registering voters because the machine is set up to put registered voters at the end,” he said.

Bayode says that the Presiding Officer (PO) of the polling unit will report the incident if the thugs take the device to other places where they will change the data on it. 

“If something like that happens, the PO reports it, and on the back end, that device is turned off so that the person who took it away can’t use it,” he said.
