Oyo deputy gov in attendance as Buhari launches L-PRES

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal is among the critical stakeholders attending the launch of livestock Productivity and resilience support project code name (L-PRES)

The launch which is holding at the banquet hall of the Presidential villa Abuja is aimed at improving productivity, commercialization and resilience of targeted livestock production systems in Nigeria.

The project is being financed by the world bank and would support the transformation of livestock sector, food security, reduction of incessant conflict and effect of Covid-19 pandemic on the livestock industry.

According to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the project whose pillars include, promotion of climate smart livestock production, expansion of rural economy for employment and income generation, reduction in importation of livestock and it’s products and involvement and empowerment of women, youth and vulnerable people will enjoy a credit of over five hundred million dollars.

Recall that the nineteen Northern States Governors have called on the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to implement the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) to boost agriculture in the country.

The governors made the call at a meeting presided by its Chairman and Plateau State Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, held with Commissioners of Livestock, Agriculture, and Finance as well as other stakeholders from the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory in Abuja.

The Northern States Governors also agreed on the need for all the 19 states to harmonize their activities and come up with a common document that would make the scheme successful.

They noted that the states could benefit from the L-PRES if implemented especially on how to ensure the environment is secured to allow farmers cultivate crops
