We’re working hard – FG reacts to doctors’ threat to embark on strike

The Ministry of Health has commented on the two-week ultimatum given by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) telling the Government to meet the demands of the association or risk an industrial action.

Dr Deborah Bitrus-Oghoghorie of the Department of Hospital services, while addressing a press conference, said the issues by the doctors were financial issues which the ministry cannot solve on its own.

“The issue we have with the resident doctors are mainly financial issues and because of that we at the ministry of health can’t handle it alone.

“So, what we’re doing now is to facilitate resolving the issue with the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning and the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC),” she said.

She has given assurance that the doctors that the ministry was doing its best to ensure that the industrial action was averted, NAN reports.
