Complain to INEC not social media – INEC tells aggrieved politicians

The Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Abdulganiy Olayinka Raji has appealed to political actors and political parties who may not be comfortable with electoral issues, not to approach the social media.

The REC explained that politicians should rather approach the commission, as the door of the electoral organ is always open.

The Osun INEC REC made this revelation on Tuesday during the Omoluabi Convergence, in the state, which was meant for brainstorming with gubernatorial candidates towards a peaceful Osun 2022 gubernatorial election.

Prof. Raji blamed political actors and political parties for their refusal to collaborate with INEC, and called on political parties to approach the electoral commission anytime there are electoral issues rather than going to the social media.

According to the Prof. Raji, “if I will use social media, I will use it to advance myself and to aid in conducting a free, fair, inclusive and conclusive election and not to discredit or, discuss or spread hate speech, information that are unfounded or to fight anyone.

“Our office is open to everyone and I can be approached anywhere. We can always talk in order to advance peace, so that this election will be peaceful.”

He added that, “at a point in time, somebody felt his mandate was stolen and he felt there was a need to follow due process.”

Raji, called on political stakeholders to give room for peaceful and due electoral process.

He explained that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has mandated the electoral umpire to relate with politicians without fear, discrimination and favor.

He charged the political actors to make sure that the election is peaceful and decent.

He also implored the voters to choose the best candidate, for themselves.
