BREAKING: Super Eagles Coach, Austin Eguavoen resigns

The interim coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen, has reportedly resigned from his position following Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

Mouthpiece NGR understands that Eguavoen would continue as the Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

According to Brilla Fm, the tactician has forwarded his official resignation letter to the football federation but NFF has not released an official statement.

Recall that the NFF had handed a two-year contract to Eguavoen two days before the first leg of the World Cup play-off against Ghana in Kumasi.

The Black Stars of Ghana secured a ticket to the World Cup and stopped Nigeria’s dream of becoming the first African country to qualify for four consecutive World Cups.

Meanwhile, the NFF has tendered an unreserved apology to the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria for the failure of the Super Eagles to qualify for this year’s FIFA World Cup finals holding in Qatar.

NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi regretted that the team failed to qualify despite the enormous support of the Government and the good people of Nigeria who turned out in throngs to fill up the 60,491 –capacity Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja for the clash with Ghana’s Black Stars on Tuesday.
