Ibadan North East Chairman Flag Off National Directorate For Empowerment Skills Aquisition Program

As skills acquisition is one of the core mandate of  the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government (IBNELG, HON. Ibrahim Akinsola Akintayo, on Wednesday flagged off the National Directorate for Employment’s skills acquisition programme (SCHOOL ON WHEEL) at the Local Government.

The effort is aimed at meeting the legitimate demands of unemployed citizens, especially the youth for decent job opportunities.

According to a statement made available to Mouthpiece NGR on Friday, the youths will be trained on requisite skills in advanced mechatronics for automobile repairs, make-up and make over.

The chairman had demonstrated his determination to empower youths within Ibadan North East through articulated policies, programmes and sustained support to agencies with constitutional responsibility of empowering and creating jobs opportunities.

The Chairman who said that the Programme will run for three month, noted that the training would also provide relevant information, certificates, resources and incentives for the development of skills, entrepreneurship and enterprises necessary for national growth.

He however encourage all the participants who are to partake in this training that the road towards economic emancipation starts with your personal determination to succeed. Because journey of a thousand miles start with a step. It is not possible for the local government to provide jobs for all and sundry in the country, but if every Nigerian can acquire a skill, we have succeeded in reducing poverty by 90 percent in the country”

The Chairman noted that such trainings would not only equip the youths with skills to make a living, as well as create employment for others, but would also lure them away from social vices and crimes within the local government.

Akintayo stated that the initiative resonated with government’s commitment to ensuring youth inclusiveness in its plans and programmes.

However,  formal employment has proven to be insufficient, giving rise to an increase in informal employment, which is largely considered as the driving force of most developing countries’ economies. This in clear terms necessitates the need for schemes that will equip the youth with specialized skills to empower them for gainful employment both in the formal and informal markets.”

He advised the participants never to despise small beginnings, as they need to be focused and tenacious in order to employ others to support them in the expansion of their businesses.
